Abstract

The Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP) is very important aspect and can play a potential role in health care setups specifically in hospitals. Due to increased unnecessary use of broad-spectrum antibiotics in an in-patients and ambulatory patients that can cause severe health-related problems including, drug resistance, increased cost of antibiotics. The main objective of this program is to determine the medical errors in patients’ profile specifically medication charts contain antibiotics. The medication errors like wrong or improper dose, improper drug, improper time duration of antibiotic therapy, detect inappropriateness of antibiotics, especially broad spectrum, and determine the increasing cost of drugs in hospital stay. It is concluded in many research studies that through the implantation of ASP (Antibiotic Stewardship Program) irrational use of antibiotics can be controlled either at small clinics or in large tertiary care hospitals that is the only tool to lower the cost of therapy and protect patients from drug resistance so it should be adopted in all hospitals to reduce the health-related problems and save the money.
