Abstract

Introduction: Schmorl's nodes (SNs) represent a significant spinal condition where disc material herniates into vertebral bodies. While this condition is widely recognized globally, there has been limited research in the Peshawar region, creating a notable gap in local health- care knowledge. This study aimed to determine the frequency of SNs in patients undergoing MRI, investigate the mean age of affected patients, and evaluate gender distribution patterns at HMC.

Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 126 patients who underwent lumbosacral MRI examinations. Data was collected using non-probability convenient sampling and analyzed using SPSS version 29.

Results: The study found that 23.8% of participants had SNs. The mean age of affected patients was 49 years (±13.5 SD), indicating a predominance in middle-aged adults. Research by gender  found that males (26.1%) had more of this than women (18.4%). Found to be a frequently affected location with 36.6% of all cases was the L1 vertebra.

Conclusion: This research give valuable information of the SN in the Peshawar by revealing variations in gender and age-related. These findings underline the importance of early detection in regional health care and draw attention to the screening strategies mainly for middle-aged male patients.
